メイリオ単体配布、ようやく

XPSP3が出たな
あと、ダウンロードセンターでメイリオが単体で落とせるようになってるな
モノは5.00でVistaとかに付属のと同じ
名称は「Japanese ClearType fonts for Windows XP」、要認証
Vista に搭載されているフォント・メイリオ（Meiryo）は、今まで単体では配布されていなかったので、入手しようと思ったら
- Vista のベータ版を入れる（ver. 0.99）
- Vista を買う（ver. 5.00）
- Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac を買う（ver. 5.00）
- Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition を入れる（ver. 5.00）
というようなことが必要だった。
今回ようやく、メイリオ5.00の単体ダウンロードが可能になった様子。2008/05/06公開。

Japanese Fonts shipped with Windows XP use embedded bitmaps to provide legibility at small sizes on the screen. Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) does not display these bitmaps but instead renders the outlines. These outlines are not instructed (hinted) for good legibility and the results are poor. Meiryo Collection Version 5.00 has been properly instructed for legibility at 9 point size and above in ClearType environments such as WPF.
ダウンロードは [続行] ボタンから。Windows が正規版だと確認されれば、VistaFont_JPN.EXE のダウンロードが始まる。「必要システム」には Windows XP としか書かれていない。他の Windows でもダウンロードできるかは未確認。
ダウンロードが完了したら VistaFont_JPN.EXE を起動し、使用許諾契約を読んで [はい]（同意する）を選べば勝手にインストールされる。VistaFont_JPN.EXE は適当な解凍ソフトで開けるので、インストールをしたくない場合などは解凍して取り出せばよい。
これでメイリオ利用者がどれくらい増えるんだろうか。メイリオ使いたい！って人は、自分でとっくに入れてるような気もするけど。
